Taking steps to prevent skin cancer is a step in the right direction! Remember that you need to take sun safety measures in ALL seasons. Whether you are doing spring gardening, summer swimming, taking a fall walk, or doing some winter skiing, it is important to protect yourself from the sun’s UV rays while enjoying the outdoors.

Here are a few things you can do to help prevent skin cancer:

  • Wear a wide brimmed hat
  • Wear long sleeved or sun protective clothing when possible
  • Apply sunscreen with at least an SPF of 15 every two hours when outdoors
  • Do not use indoor tanning beds
  • Do not go outdoors between the hours of 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. because the sun’s rays cause the most harm between those hours.
